My father, Parker Birkins, died in April of 2000, and I wrote "Whatever You Do" to sing and play at his memorial service. I think of him many times each day; so many things trigger memories or thoughts like "Dad would have like that" or "That was one of Dad's favorites" or "I wish Dad could have seen this."
As I say in the lyrics, the man I am today I owe to the man who taught me, "Whatever you do son, give it your all, intensely with passion, or not at all. One hundred percent son, and nothing less, whatever you do son, give it only your best."
"Whatever You Do" is in the Story Songs category of my songs; there are five basic categories of songs on this website: Christian Songs, Love Songs (including wedding and reception songs), Patriotic Songs, Story Songs, and my three Christian Christmas Musicals (some songs appear in multiple categories).
